Shape Shifter is mainly intrumental (only two sung tracks and that helps in a good way) and revisits with great conviction and energy some of the band's best moments like the legendary Caravanserai or Borboletta. At other times, the album veers towards a smoother Latin-fusion (like Festival or Amigos), but it never goes kitsch.

May 11,  · Shape Shifter (the song) can give you those goose bumps about half way through the song. Carlos is just taken you on a musical journey like he did on the Blues for Salvador, "Now that you Know". Shape Shifter is the best song that I have heard from Carlos in ten years. It alone is worth the price of the CD/5().

It was a treat to hear the new Shape Shifter album by Santana, after the series of pop albums like Supernatural. The best phases of Santana were the early Abraxas phase, and the jazz fusion Caravanserai phase. The only Santana albums that really interested me after Borboletta were Amigos and (read more)/5(4).

"Macumba in Budapest" is a Latin jam with excellent percussion from Raul Rekow and Karl Perazzo. The Latin tinge follows on "Eres La Luna," with fine vocals by Andy Vargas and Tony Lindsay. "Ah Sweet Dancer," a piano and guitar duet, closes the set; it's one of a pair featuring son Salvador Santana on keyboards. Shape Shifter is far from perfect.6/

The legendary Carlos Santana returns with his 36th album 'Shape Shifter'. The collection of songs on this brand new LP is a journey from soaring Santana leads and driving beats to the beautifully crafted melodies that have made Santana a household name. Disappointing. The next song was more like it, Macumba in Budapest, more like vintage /5().
