High Hopes is less a cohesive album by Bruce Springsteen than a collection of spare parts. There are a few "new" songs that haven't seen the light of day, outtakes from the Boss' more recent albums, studio recordings of songs previously only released as live versions, and a handful of off-beat covers/5(K).

Much of this record oscillates between the moody and militant, particularly in the politically charged .
